UP 2402 was built in November 1967, GM EMD GP38, builder number 33703, frame number 7060-73, Chesapeake & Ohio 3872, renumbered to CSXT 2033. Rebuilt by Motive Power Industries, Bosie (Idaho) from a former GP38. The rebuilding included fully reconditioned cabs, 3,600-gallon fuel tanks, D78 traction motors, and theWoodward CLC control system, along with AR10 traction alternators, and extended-range dynamic braking. The original GP38 2,000-horsepower Roots-blown EMD 645 engine, and two-fan configuration for radiator colling were both retained. Leased from Helm Financial, acquired by UP on 27 November 1996. UP calls these locomotives GP38-3,MPI calls them GP38M-3s. [courtesy of Union Pacific Locomotive Directory, Don Strack, Withers Publishing, ISBN 1-881411-16-8, 1998]
