UP 2742 was built in March 1976, GM EMD GP39-2, builder number 756126-14. Built as Boston & Maine 363, later to Delaware & Hudson 363. Lease expired and units returned to Connell Leasing. Leased to UP on 1 July 1996 and delivered between 8 and 17 July. Temporarily numbered UP 363, still in Guilford gray paint scheme. Renumbered 11 September 1996 to UP 2742.
