C&NW 4307 performs switching duties at the Chicago Passenger Terminal.
CNW 4307, model GP7, built 7/57, builder number 22983, acquired by C&NW in 11/60, previous road number M&STL 606, C&NW paint scheme TY [Traditional Yellow; modern version of the "Stagecoach yellow" used from 1991 to merger], rebuilt 7/57, renumber planned to UP 495. C&NW 4307: Builder's Date: Jul 1957, Builder's Number: 22983, as Minneapolis & St. Louis 606 using M&StL Fts and F2s as direct trade-ins. Numbered C&NW 606. Rebuild from GP7 (including chopped short hood by C&NW in Oct 1972. Originally equipped with dynamic braking, removed by C&NW and openings in braking blister on carbody blanked off. EMD GP9R, 9 units (4301-4309), B-B, 16-567C, 16-567C engine, 62:15 gear ratio, 1,750 horsepower, 247,000 pounds operating weight. C&NW 4307 was built in July 1957, GM EMD GP7R, builder number 22983, as Minneapolis and St. Louis 606. Acquired by C&NW by merger on 1 November 1960, and was renumbered to C&NW 606. Rebuilt in October 1972 by C&NW at Oelwein (Iowa) and renumbered to C&NW 4307. C&NW 4307 was originally equipped with dynamic braking; removed by C&NW and openings in braking blister on carbody blanked out. Equipped with C&NW Automatic Train Stop and Automatic Train Control on both ends to operate in either direction over the Metra commute district in Chicago. Originally assigned a UP number in the 490-505 series (not in C&NW series), but no units known to be renumbered.
