Galewood rail yard

The Ringling Brothers and Barnum Bailey Circus comes to Chicago each November for a few weeks of performances. You'll find photos here of each car of the 1999 Red Unit consist and the passenger and animal cars of the 1998 Blue Unit consist.

Metra has a map and information about the Hanson Park station at their official Web site. This station located along and serves the Metra / Milwaukee District West Line.

Circus Train (on the far left) in the Galewood rail yard, looking west and down from the Central Avenue bridge. The four large animal cars can be seen west of and detached from the remainder of the train. A "pig" (piggyback) train is in the foreground, beside an eastbound Metra train that is approaching the Hanson Park station.

This train is so long that I was not able to get a photograph of the entire train in one shot.

The Red Unit train and the Blue Unit train alternate years on their routes and change their programming (and performers) on a two-year cycle. The Blue Unit train appeared in Chicago in November of 1998 and is scheduled to return in November of 2000. The Red Unit train appeared in Chicago in November of 1999 and is scheduled to return in November of 2001.
