Synopsis: Built in November 1949, GM EMD F7A, EMD order number E1188A, builder's number 8569, as C&NW 4082C for freight service. In 1959 regeared from 62:15 (65 mph) to 57:20 (95 mph) and a 480 VAC Cummins Head-End-Power diesel generator set added, and assigned to Chicago suburban commuter service. Renumbered to C&NW 411 in December 1971. Sold to RTA (later Metra) on 31 December 1947 and leased back (the next day) to C&NW for commuter operation. Retired by RTA on 11 September 1983, but retained on the roster until donated to the Illinois Railway Museum in 1999. --had

C&NW 406-411 renumbered from C&NW 4000 series in 1971. C&NW 406-411 sold to RTA (now Metra) on 31 December 1947, leased back to C&NW on 1 January 1978. Assigned RTA road numbers 300-305; only C&NW 411/RTA 305 was actually renumbered. EMD F7A, 6 units (406-411), B-B, 16-567B engine, 57:20 gear ratio, 1,500 horsepower, 237,000 pounds operating weight. Regeared from the original 62:15 (65 mph) gear ratio to 57:20 (95 mph) gear ratio, and equipped with Cummins diesel generator set for 440 VAC auxiliary power for Chicago suburban service in 1959. Renumbered to C&NW 411:2 (second unit numbered 411) December 1971. EMD F7A, 32 units (4072A-4087C), B-B, 16-567B engine, 62:15 gear ratio, 1,500 horsepower, 237,000 pounds operating weight.
