Home | Southern Pacific LinesReporting mark SP |
The SP reporting mark has become part of the Union Pacific system. Some locomotives continue to carry SP markings. Many freight cars continue to have SP reporting marks, when repainted typically keeping their SP reporting mark and number, while acquiring a UP logo.
The Southern Pacific Lines merged with the Union Pacific system on 12 September 1998. [source: The Historical Guide to North American Railroads, Kalmbach Books, ISBN 0-89024-356-5, 2nd edition, 2000]
